Skilled Companion dogs are provided to children with physical or
developmental challenges where a non-disabled person, usually a
parent, facilitates the work of the dog. This is ICAN's primary
focus.
ICAN does not have particular age restrictions. Potential recipients will be individually evaluated.
You might be interested in a Skilled Companion if...
you are a 5 year old with moderate autism that needs assistance with verbal and behavioral skills.
you are a 12 year old with Downs Syndrome who could work with a dog to increase fine motor skills and help socialize.
you are a 7 year old with cerebral palsy who would have the dog pick up dropped objects or push open doors.
